Amerigroup’s purpose is to improve the health of humanity. For many Texans, that starts with a healthy meal.
But access to nutritious food is something that millions of Texans cannot take for granted. According to Feeding America, more than 4 million Texans are facing hunger, including 1.4 million children.
That’s why Amerigroup launched Food Is Medicine, our innovative program to collaborate with a wide range of on-the-ground community groups across the state to increase health equity and ensure more Texans can count on reliable, healthy food.
The video spotlights our work with three vital community organizations in Houston:
- Kids’ Meals, which delivers food to families with food-insecure children;
- Urban Harvest, which sets up mobile farmers markets in communities that are far from grocery stores and other places to buy affordable healthy food; and
- Communities for Better Health, which cultivates health equity and sustainable communities through projects such as community gardens and cooking demonstrations.
These collaborations capture Amerigroup’s commitment to people and communities across Texas — as well as the power of partnerships that are helping Texans to get healthy and stay healthy.
