Amerigroup Community Care of Georgia today announced Dr. Tich Changamire as its new president, effective August 12, 2026.
Dr. Changamire will oversee all aspects of the health plan business, working with the Georgia Department of Community Health, healthcare providers and community organizations to strengthen care coordination, improve quality and expand access to healthcare for Medicaid and Medicare members across the state.
Dr. Changamire joined Amerigroup’s parent company, Elevance Health, in 2023 and most recently served as president of its affiliated health plan in Washington, D.C. Previously, he served as vice president and chief medical officer for Elevance Health’s Commercial Health Benefits business, where he led clinical strategy and performance. Before joining Elevance Health, he held senior leadership positions with Humana and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, overseeing clinical strategy, quality improvement and healthcare operations across Medicaid, Medicare and commercial health plans.
A board-certified family physician, Dr. Changamire brings experience spanning clinical care, public health and health plan leadership. He earned his medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Washington. He also holds a Ph.D. in Public Health and Epidemiology from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford University.

This leadership transition follows the retirement of Melvin Lindsey, who concluded a 26-year career with Elevance Health on July 21. Elevance Health is grateful for his dedication and the lasting impact of his many contributions to the organization, and wishes him all the best in his retirement.
